Project overview
About this development
Construction of the proposed Warwick Avenue inbound flyover between Botanical Gardens Road and Johannes Nkosi Street (formerly Alice Street) in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The proposal is to link the Western Freeway with Johannes Nkosi Street (formally Alice Street) termination just before Russell Street, thus by-passing the highly congested Warwick/Old Dutch and Johannes Nkosi Street/Market intersections on the inbound carriageway. The proposed project length is approximately 1000m, of which the elevated section will be approximately 300m long. The viaduct is a ten span 365 metre long structure crossing over the existing two viaducts, the bus station and a taxi rank. The foundations utilising precast driven piles will be constructed across the late Holocene Durban bay shoreline that existed during the last high sea level (approximately 3 metres above present) about 4000 years ago.
