Upgrades and improvements to the Vereeniging main taxi rank in Duncanville in Gauteng. The contract value is R166 948 085,60. The upgrading of the taxi rank facilities comprises two separate projects referred to as Phase 1 and Phase 2. Phase 1 involves the repairs and improvements to the existing temporary (or “interim”) taxi rank which is already under construction. Phase 2 involves the completion and improvements to the partially completed rank. Scope of works includes the following: Storm water drainage (above and below ground), potable water, fire water and sewer design, road works, paving, kerbing, markings and signage, repairs to the existing storm water and sewer system and linking to bulk services. Modifications to the structural components of the canopies over the loading bays, modifications to hawker stall layouts and courtyard areas, construction of courtyard canopies, construction of a wash bay with ablutions, completion of various ablution blocks, HVAC design and installation to offices and ablutions, electrical reticulation in buildings, electrification of the site by either upgrades to substations or a PV solar system, electrical lighting and high mast lighting on site, integrity checks and testing of all existing civil services (water, fire water, sewer and storm water), unblocking and cleaning of existing sewer, storm water and water pipes, construction of admin block building and associated utilities and finishes, fencing and access gates for vehicles and pedestrians, pedestrian sidewalks, shaping and landscaping, removal of non-usable structural steel work and roofing sheets, removal to spoil of sub-grade pavement layers, maintenance of the taxi rank for a period of two years after handover to the municipality, planning, design, and project management of the above. Phase 2 is bound by Union Street to the west, the railway line to the east, the R82 roadway to the south and Transnet owned retail facilities to the north. The site is located south of the Vereeniging train station with entrances along Union Street on Stanley Avenue, Beaconsfield Avenue and Senator Marks Avenue in the Vereeniging CBD at GPS co-ordinates of 26°40'41.5"S 27°56'00.8"E
