About this development
Redevelopment and revitalization of the Valkenberg Hospital, in Cape Town, in the Western Cape. This multi million-rand reconstruction designed around the concepts of a village and courtyards to improve the environment for patients, will accommodate 432 patients. Heritage buildings already there will be preserved, while adding a host of many new buildings. R978 million is to be spent on the upgrade, of which R457m will be allocated to the actual construction of the buildings. The new hospital will be divided into a forensic village and a general psychiatry campus that will be used along with a collection of wards and buildings within secure perimeters. The revamp is also marked as part of the Two Rivers Urban Park project, the area will incorporate the wetlands, and plans are afoot to build canals between the two rivers with walking paths.
