About this development
Construction of the Tshwane BRT public transport system is the first phase of a four-phase project to develop public transport in Tshwane, Gauteng. The completed system will eventually consist of 472 km of infrastructure, the project will consist of two main lines: Line 1 will be from Mabopane along the R80 freeway to the Belle Ombre and Pretoria Station, Line 2 will run from Mamelodi along route K69, past the Menlyn area, University of Pretoria to the Pretoria Station and the Belle Ombre Station. The BRT roll-out will be done in phases, with line 1 linking areas in the north, such as Soshanguve and Mabopane, to the CBD, while line 2 will reach out to areas in the south and east, like the fast developing suburbs along Hans Strijdom Drive and Mamelodi. The completion of lines 1 and 2 would mean a BRT service that covers a route of about 70km and features four bus terminals, 53 bus stations and 159 buses. Estimated value: R2.6 billion.
