About this development
Construction of the proposed Nzalo substation and associated power lines, as part of a suite of projects collectively known as the Ermelo - Richards Bay Coal link Upgrade. The scope of works includes the construction of a new 400/88 kV, 160MVA Substation with associated 88kV and 400kV turn-in power lines approximately 15km northeast of Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal. The “North” substation site alternative is located approximately 500m west of the existing 400kV Normandie-Umfolozi power line and the “South” substation site alternative approximately 600m west of the existing 400kV Normandie-Umfolozi power line. The “North” power line corridor alternative (Alternative 1) will be approximately 6km in length and tie into the existing Normandie Bloedrivier 88kV traction power line. The proposed Transnet Coallink Project consisting of the construction of transmission substations, upgrading of existing transmission power lines and the construction of new transmission power lines traversing KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga Provinces, from Empangeni to Ermelo south.
