Project overview
About this development
The project proposes to construct a 1 500-km-long rail line, which will connect Botswana’s Mmamabula coalfield to the Port of Walvis Bay, in Namibia, with a possible connection to South Africa’s Waterberg coalfield. The TKR project is expected to provide an alternative coal transport route to the Port of Walvis Bay instead of the current line to the Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT), in South Africa. The planned rail link will have the advantage of reaching overseas markets a week earlier than exports from the RBCT. The project cost is N$100 billion. The exact co-ordinates are currently not available however the approximate area of location is lat: 23.609295°S; long: 26.774952°E
