Tiara Mining is applying for a mining permit (5 hectare) for the possible exploitation of a 360m long quartz vein deposit up to a depth of 70m, located 25km north-west of Phalaborwa on the farm Granville 767 LT in Limpopo. Total ore reserves are estimated at 1.6 million tons mineable over a predicted 4-5 year life of mine. The main mining operations entail opencast methods using contract drilling and blasting followed by quartz ore removal and waste stripping using excavators and articulated dump trucks.
