About this development
Construction of a new specialist aviation medicine facility that will cost more than R500-million will be built at the Innovation Hub, in Pretoria, Gauteng. The facility will include training and collaborative research through a new physiological training centre, which will include a modern human centrifuge, a disorientation demonstrator with night vision integration, a helicopter disorientation trainer with G-capabilities and night vision integration, new hypobaric chambers, an anti-G-straining manoeuvre trainer, an ejection trainer, an underwater escape training system, gym equipment specifically designed for aeromedical physiological training, a hyperbaric oxygen therapy unit and a military psychological unit. The facility will offer specialised services for South African Air Force personnel, including fighter pilots, helicopter pilots, transport pilots, cabin crew of various designations, airborne special forces, divers and submariners.
