About this development
Construction of the 480MW Soyuz 5 Wind Energy Facility and associated infrastructure located approximately 58km south of Britstown within the Ubuntu Local Municipality and the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality in the Northern Cape Province. The Soyuz 5 WEF project site covers approximately 16 800ha and comprises the following farm portions: The Farm Lekkervlei No. 142; Remaining Extent of the Farm Gediertesfontein No. 134; Portion 4 of the Farm Schram Fontein No. 21; Portion 4 (Beschuid Kuil) of the Farm Schramfountain No. 23; Remaining Extent (Portion 0) of the Farm Schram Fontein No. 21; Portion 1 of the Farm Schram Fontein No. 21; Remaining Extent of Portion 2 of the Farm Draayfountain No 24. The infrastructure will include: Up to 75 wind turbines; Battery Energy Storage System; three substations and operation and maintenance facilities as well as a lay down area at each substation. Operation and maintenance facilities include a gate house, security building, control centre, offices, warehouses and workshops. Access roads to the site and between project components inclusive of stormwater infrastructure. The estimated GPS coordinates are 31°09'35.7"S 23°34'52.1"E.
