About this development
Platinum Australia (PLA) envisages starting operations at Smokey Hills initially as an open cut operation and then progressing to a shallow underground mine. The on-site treatment plant will have a design capacity of 720 000 t/y and will produce about 95 000 oz of 4E PGM (platinum, palladium, rhodium and gold) in a flotation concentrate. This will be toll-treated or sold to any number of smelters in South Africa. Project value: R323 million.
