About this development
Impala will be investing R850-million to expand its Rustenburg smelter. The smelter expansion will support Impala's vision of producing 2,8-million ounces of platinum, up from the current one-million-ounce-plus level. This is in addition to the R150 million upgrade to the smelter as a standby furnace (to be completed in April '07), which will now be upgraded from standby-furnace status to a fully operational one.
