Simiyu BWS, Abstraction Pipeline

Construction of the abstraction pipeline for the Simiyu Regional Bulk Water Supply Project in Simiyu Region, Tanzania. The specifications of the pipeline are as follows: Raw water transmission abstraction pipe HDPE DN 1000 extending about 1 km in the lake, the pipeline will also be connected to the water treatment plant. The planned intake point is located at Bukabile village, Bariadi District, at a distance of 175m from the Lake Victoria shore line (1,140 masl.) and with a total water depth of about 4m and an extraction at 3m depth. The water abstraction for Phase 1 of the project amounts to 19,000m³/day. The connection to the water treatment plant will be via a 2.75km long steel pipe. The project stretches between the following district centres and villages: Bariadi (Bariadi district), Lagangabilili (Itilima district), Mwanhuzi (Meatu district), Nyashimo (headquarter of Busega district), Maswa (Maswa district). The water is planned to be abstracted from Lake Victoria and transferred to the above mentioned towns and villages via the long distance pipeline scheme. The project value is €64.1 million.
