About this development
Construction of the Sarah Baartman Center of Remembrance and the demolition and alterations to the adjacent school in Hankey, Eastern Cape. The initial works were awarded for R 82 932 187,00. The value of the completion works is R100 million+. The centre would include two museums, tourist accommodation, a restaurant, an archives building and an auditorium. This will be developed on 80 hectares of land adjacent to Sarah Baartman's grave site. The competition scope of works could include but not limited to gate house, reception, education block & auditorium, living heritage workshops and restaurant, dormitories, arrival court, underpass, museum building, healing pond, great place of celebration, symbolic & productive garden and a burial site. The GPS marker has been placed at Sarah Baartman Center of Remembrance 33°50'12.6"S 24°53'14.1"E
