About this development
Construction of the Robben Island Museum Infrastructure Programme, located on Robben Island, Western Cape. The RIM Infrastructure Programme consists of four main areas. Each programme area consists of a tailored scope to address the current and future infrastructure needs of the Museum. Water and sanitation programme: The construction of a wastewater treatment plant (new); and the upgrade of the desalination plant (new). The adaptive re-use programme: Guest houses, alpha 1; Multi purposes learning centre; The contemporary gallery old power station; Mass kitchen & restaurant, John Craig hall, village shop, harbour precinct building, single quarters, penguin boardwalk; and maximum security prison external works, Robben Island water reticulation system, resuscitation of boreholes, prefab block A & B, transport depot, Voortrekker hall, helipad landing, Robert Sobukwe complex. Transport and marine infrastructure: Transport and logistics infrastructure to support island operations. Energy and electricity infrastructure: Develop sustainable energy solutions to reduce operational interruptions and reliance on diesel generators on the island.
