Replacement of No 2 Furnace at Lonmin

The replacement of the number 2 furnace at Lonmin Marikana, near Rustenburg, North West Province The proposed project will require the replacement of the existing Merensky Number 2 six-in-line rectangular furnace crucible with a three-electrode-circular furnace. The furnace building will only require demolition of the existing furnace refractory, steel structures and civil works. The circular furnace will be positioned to have the minimum impact on the building floors above the furnace roof as well as optimizing the placement of existing infrastructure. The following infrastructure will be developed as part of the project: A new Number 2 Circular Furnace crucible; and A new slag crossover conveyor system.
