About this development
Construction of infrastructure for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System, Section 4: Empire Road. The project is located along Empire Road, between Victoria Avenue and Jan Smuts Avenue in Parktown, Johannesburg, Gauteng. The project will involve the following: Upgrading of existing storm water infrastructure where necessary, removal of trees where necessary, to facilitate widening of the road. Construction of 2 BRT median bus-ways, with a median island between them. Construction of an enclosed, access controlled, median bus station with level-crossing access. Widening of traffic lanes to accommodate the dedicated BRT lane, whilst maintaining mixed traffic lanes. Altering of the following intersections with Empire Road: Victoria Avenue; Hillside Road; Melle Street and Jan Smuts Avenue.
