About this development
The project plans to build a rare earths separation plant to process the mixed rare-earth chloride to be produced at the Steenkampskraal mine, some 70km north of Vanrhynsdorp, north of Cape Town in the Western Cape. The rare-earth chloride will be separated into rare-earth oxides. The plant is expected to cost around C$30 million. There is currently no national (Eskom) power grid supply to the site and it is expected that GWMG will begin operations using diesel generated power.
