Project overview
About this development
Construction of a wind energy facility and associated infrastructure near Uniondale in the Western Cape. The Outeniqua Wind Farm project will have between 12-18 wind turbines and each turbine would be a 100m high and have three 60m long blades and make between 2MW and 3.5MW of electricity or 63MW in total. The project would also need the following: An approximately 7km long, 7m wide gravel road running from the N9 on the Potjiesberg Pass up, and along the length ridge line connecting all the turbines; a collector station with a 50m by 50m footprint where electricity will be collected before being sent to the grid; some security gates and fencing; but not all the way around, just at the entrance road; and about ten electricity pylons between the collector station and substation for the power line. In addition to the infrastructure above, an area of about 8.5 ha will be disturbed during the construction of the project. This area is needed for the construction camps, offices, laydown areas and hardstands for the cranes.
