Project overview
About this development
The proposed plant will involve the construction of an open-cycle gas-turbine (OCGT) power plant, fuel supply pipeline and a substation with transmission lines in Mossel Bay and Atlantis. The project involves a total of seven turbines, with Mossel Bay able to produce 440MW and Atlantis 588MW. A fuel-supply pipeline in Mossel Bay of approximately 3km to 5km long will be constructed to transport paraffin from the PetroSA facility to the OCGT power plant. A transmission substation is to feed the electricity generated to the transmission lines and then to Proteus substation. Two overhead transmission lines of 400kV capacity each will be required from the planned substation to the Proteus substation, thus feeding the electricity generated into the national grid. The Mossel Bay project will include the upgrading of the Proteus substation, an access road from N2 to the power plant and substation will have to be built. The gas turbine station in Atlantis will be called Ankerlig.
