Nthale Hill lies 22 kilometres north of Blantyre City. It is approximately 3 kilometres from the nearest point on the railway line that runs to Nacala Indian Ocean deepwater port. In 2009 Britannia Mining was granted exclusive prospecting licenses to conduct mineral exploration activities over a total area of 650km² at Nthale, near Blantyre in Malawi. It is their intention to develop 100 million tons of ore at Nthale, sufficient to constitute a world class resource.
