About this development
Expansion of the Ngezi Platinum Mine, located 150km southwest of Harare. The expansion project will see the construction of two new portals and a 1,5 million ton per annum concentrator which will increase the mine's overall throughput to 3,6 million tpa from 2,2m tpa. While the concentrator was put on hold in 2004, DRA continued with the design and construction of the infrastructure and amenities that were required for the mine. This included 72kms of 132kV line with substation as well as 33kV reticulation around the extended site; the building of the Ngezi River Weir with pump house and water supply to a water treatment plant, a treated water storage reservoir and 6km of potable water pipeline to 181 houses built at Turf Village as well as 8,2km of road between the village and mine. Further investigations are underway to take production to 300 000 oz/y of platinum within 5 years. Project value: US$340 million.
