About this development
Ikwezi Mining wishes to reinstate a coal siding at Ngagane. The proposed siding area covers approximately 17 ha and is located on the Farms Macalman 4254 HS portions 7 and 9 and Chivelston 6742 HS a portion of the remainder about 12 km south of Newcastle on the P446 (Ngagane / Kilbarchan Road) off the N11 within the Newcastle Local Municipality of KwaZulu-Natal Province. The Ngagane siding was previously operated by Eskom as a coal feedline for the Ngagane power station and included double tracks and a coal yard. The reinstated siding will include a single line track along the extent of one of the previous tracks catering for 50 wagons; a clay lined coal product stockpile and loading platform catering for 100,000 tons along the extent of one of the previous tracks; lighting for the siding area; and appropriate stormwater and pollution control structures including clean and dirty water separation and a lined pollution control dam.
