About this development
The definitive feasibility study on the Ncondezi power plant in Tete, Mozambique has confirmed the economic and technical viability of an 1800 MW mine-mouth, thermal coal-fired power plant, consuming 7.2 million tons a year of coal. The power plant is expected to be built in phases of 300 MW units, using domestic coal from the proposed Ncondezi coal mine. The openpit mine will be 2km away from the power plant and will have a lifetime capacity of 4.8 billion tons of coal. Estimated project value: The estimated cost of the power plant is $1 billion and that of the mine between $60 and $80 million.
