About this development
Construction of the civils and infrastructure for the Namakwa Special Economic Zone (SEZ), located on a portion of RE/57 of the Farm Aroams 57 Portion 1 of the farm Bloemhoek 61, Aggeneys, Northern Cape. Confirmed investments total R29.3 billion. The SEZ is located approximately 14km east of the town of Aggeneys, along the southern border of the N14 on 1270.06ha immediately adjacent to Vedanta Zinc International's Gamsberg Mine. The anchor project of the Namakwa SEZ will be the Gamsberg zinc smelter. The Namakwa SEZ will focus on developing the following zones: Value-add – Heavy Industry (Noxious industry): Zinc ore processing plant, Zinc smelter, Sulphuric acid and fertilizer section. Value-add – Light Industry: Mining suppliers, service providers to the mining industry, solar farms. Agro-processing: Agro processing facilities, cool rooms, storage, consolidation, packaging. Shared services: offices. Weighbridge. Training centre and Incubator. Security and access control. Truck staging. The exact GPS co-ordinates are 29°14'00.5"S 18°54'35.3"E.
