Construction of a new coal-fired power station, Mutsho Power Project, on a site approximately 20km north-west of the Makhado Colliery, Musina Local Municipality, Vembe District. Limpopo Province. A minimum footprint of approximately 600ha is required to support areas for the establishment of coal and other raw materials stockpiles and an ash dump. Coal will be transported to the site either via a new 22km railway loop proposed between Makhado Cilliery and the existing Huntleigh railway siding or via road transport and stockpiled on site. The project is intended to form part of the Department of Energy's Coal Baseload Independent Power Producer (IPP) Procurement Programme (CBIPPPP) and will have a generation capacity of up to 600MW. Scope of works could also include the construction of a control room, offices, workshop, storage and logistics buildings.
