About this development
Development of mine infrastructure for the Modder East section of New Kleinfontein Mine north of Springs. This is an existing plant that is to be upgraded and expanded to increase production at New Kleinfontein. The ore body at Modder East is reported to be relatively near to the surface and one option is to mine it using a decline shaft instead of a more capital-intensive vertical shaft. Construction capital expenditure is expected to be about R814 million.
