About this development
African Energy Resource proposes to construct an underground coal mine and 600 MW coal-fired power station which is located between Gaborone and Francistown in Botswana. The pre-feasibility study evaluated a 4.4 Mt pa run-of-mine (ROM) operation, producing up to 3Mt pa of 6200 kilocalories per kilogram export quality thermal coal over a 20-year mine life. The Initial capital cost estimate was set at $113 million.
