About this development
The project is the Expansion of the Minas Moatize Coal mine at Tete in Mozambique. The project proposes to develop a large-scale openpit mine. The expansion will be undertaken in three phases. The first phase involves the coal handling and preparation plant and expansion of the openpit. Phase 2 will involves the expansion of the current wash plant and Phase 3 will take production to four million tons a year RoM and will involve the commissioning of the new life-of-mine wash plant. The total project capital estimate is $266 million. However this figure could be reduced to $18 million, should Beacon Hill finance key infrastructure items. such as the CHPP, the power station, through a build, own and operate arrangement; as well as using a mining contractor to mine the pit.
