About this development
Umgeni Water, planned to complete an estimated R210-million upgrade at its Midmar waterworks plant, in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal. The project will entail the upgrade of the waterworks capacity from the current 250-million litres a day, up to 375-million litres a day. The upgrade will include upgrades to the inlet works, additional storage infrastructure, the installation of an extra raw water pump, the replacement of polymer dosing pumps with new pumps that have variable speed drives and making amendments to the programmable logic controller, which controls the desludging cycle for the clarifiers and additional chemical storage requirements. The installation of additional rapid gravity and sand filters and associated infrastructure, an additional clarifier, the installation of an additional balancing tank, the installation of a number of pipelines in the plant, an additional thin sludge holding tank, and a number of other components would be required.
