About this development
The proposed project is located between Mabgesekwa and Tonota villages in the central district of Botswana and entails an open pit coal mine of 6 million tonnes of coal per annum with a capacity to produce approximately 3 Mtpa after coal washing and a mine power head power generating plant rated at 600 MW. The proposed lease area, incorporating the mine, stockpiles, processing areas, power plant, maintenance area and offices is expected to cover approximately 6000 hectares of land. The power plant is to be built 5km-6km from the coal mine mouth, with a conveyor belt constructed by the appointed EPC to transport the coal. The coal resource is estimated at over 840Mt at an average depth of 50m-60m, starting at a depth of 18m with an average thickness of 18m.
