About this development
The new Luika Gold Mine is located in the Chunya administrative district, Mbeya region in the Lupa Goldfield of south west Tanzania, in the second largest gold producing region in Tanzania in the 1900s. Shanta was considering two potential scenarios for the Life of Mine extension - a fast track growth option and a mine optimisation option that would enable it to grow output when market conditions were more attractive. The company is confident that the new Luika operation has significant potential to extend its LoM, both through opencast and underground operations.
