Project overview
About this development
Development of a wind energy facility for generating up to 50 MW of electricity on the farm Langefontein in the West Coast National Park, along the R27 about 10 km from the coastline and 40 km south of Saldanha Bay in the Western Cape. The wind farm and its associated infrastructure, known as the Langefontein Wind Energy Facility, is planned in two phases: Phase 1 will comprise 12 wind turbine generators of 2.5 MW each, to generate 30MW of power. Phase 2, an additional 8 turbines of 2.5 MW each will be added, to generate an additional 20MW of power. The total area for the Langefontein farm is 1 839 ha. The site for the proposed facility covers about 700 ha; of this, about 400 ha will undergo physical alteration for access roads, underground cabling, laydown area and concrete foundations for the turbines.
