About this development
The wind farm is located on 40 000 acres of land in the Loyangaklani District on the south eastern shore of Lake Turkana, in northern Kenya. The 310MW farm will feature three hundred and sixty five 850kW wind turbine generators, each with a capacity of 850kW. The project also includes the upgrade of the existing road of about 204 km from Laisamis to the wind farm site and an access road network in and around the site for construction, operations and maintenance. A 266-mile (428-km), 400-kilovolt power line is critical for the Lake Turkana Wind Power project, to move its electricity from Loiyangalani in the north to Suswa in the centre of Kenya.
