Kannikwa Vlakte Windfarm

The construction and erection of approximately 50-80 wind turbine generators of approximately 1.5-2.5 MW each (in three phases of 40MW each) and associated infrastructure (including access roads) for the generation of electricity. A security gatehouse would be constructed at the entrance to the site and a high voltage switchyard and substation constructed so that the wind generated electricity could be fed into the existing Eskom 220kV transmission lines that cross the site. A warehouse for maintenance as well as an education centre would be utilized in Port Nolloth, since there is very little water on site. The site is located on the farm Kannikwa Vlakte 157 and covers an area of 5438 hectares. The site is located approximately 15 kilometres east of Port Nolloth along the Steinkopf tarred road (R382) and straddles the Port Nolloth to Kleinzee road. Steinkopf is approximately 77 km to the east and Kleinzee approximately 46 km to the south of the site.
