About this development
The proposed Kamumu dam is on Ena River in Embu County in Kenya. It is designed to serve parts of Embu County namely Mbeere North and Mbeere South constituencies. Other areas include Chuka-igambang’ombe and Tharaka constituencies of Tharaka Nithi County. The proposed multi-purpose dam site was carefully selected to facilitate the delivery of water through gravity and to all areas of the county which have been experiencing serious water shortages. The proposed project components comprise of a concrete dam with a storage capacity of 31 million cubic metres, domestic water supply infrastructure for 100,000 people, irrigation infrastructure for 14 000 hectares and mini hydropower generation. The preliminary design for the dam has been done.
