About this development
The Kalia iron-ore project has a maiden inferred Joint Ore Reserves Committee magnetite resource of 2,39 billion tons located on the Kalia 1 prospect. The project entails the development of a 50 million ton a year iron-ore facility, with supporting rail and port infrastructure for the export of iron-ore. The iron-ore operation will be delivered in two stages, while the project infrastructure is to be developed as a separate vehicle. The proposed method of mining is a conventional openpit, drill-and-blast, load-and-haul operation. Low strip-ration mining will be conducted a Kalia Central until year three when mining will start in Kalia North West. The cost of Kalia Phase 1, including all contingencies is $865 million.
