About this development
Development of a major opencut platinum mine known as Kalplats. The Kalahari Platinum Project is located 350 km west of Johannesburg in the North West Province. It targets extensive platinum group element (PGE) mineralisations within the gabbroic Stella Layered Intrusion (SLI), a 3 billion year old layered intrusion associated with the Archaean Kraaipan Greenstone Belt. Klaplats comprises 7 deposits, namely Crater, Orion, Crux, Vela Sirius, Serpens North and Serpens South. The initial capital cost of the project is estimated at $91 million.
