About this development
Development of a major new manganese mine in the Kalahari Manganese Field (KMF), Heuningdraai and Mooidraai. This portion of the project is the construction of a 2,4-million-ton sinter plant on site in the Hotazel area of the Northern Cape. The initial output of the mine is planned to be up to three-million tons of ore a year. An additional component to the project is the possibility of building a 320 000-t/y ferro-manganese smelter complex in the industrial development zone of the Coega deep-water harbour. (PPA8049) The plant will be designed to have the flexibility to produce silica manganese as an alternative product. Estimated Project value for mine & Sinter Plant : R7 billion.
