Project overview
About this development
The project plans to construct a hydropower station at Stiegler's Gorge on the Rufiji River, 200km south-west of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. The plant is expected to generate about 2100MW of energy using three underground turbines, each with the capacity to produce 700 MW of electricity. The Stiegler’s Gorge is described as typical of any hydro electric plant with three main parts, namely an electrical plant where electricity is produced, a dam that can be opened and closed to control water flow and a reservoir where water can be stored. Estimated project value $2 billion. The Government is considering various funding options. The GPS co-ordinates are -7.8, 37.8666667
