Project overview
About this development
Construction of the new African Headquarters for Jindal Africa on William Nicol Drive, Gauteng. The development consists of a three-storey building, utilising the full allowable commercial bulk on two levels (3 176m²) and the balance of the bulk (1 191m²) on a third level which will include a partial residential component. A semi-basement will provide the required parking. As the company's main activities are focused on the steel industry, the design incorporates steel in both aesthetic and practical ways, combining it with glass and natural stone finishes. In addition, the building needed to be designed according to Vastu Shastra principles. Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian practice which governs the way in which buildings are designed so as to maximise the positive effects of natural forces on the building. Two large stone-clad walls running perpendicular to William Nicol Drive anchor the building with references to stone striata found in the earth's crust as seen in mine shafts. These walls also demarcate the quadrants outlined in Vastu Shastra principles, where an entrance atrium is celebrated at the heart of the building. Value R95 million
