Lagos State Government plans to create various new towns across the state to try and address the urgent need for new housing and accommodation and to de-congest the metropolis and open up the semi-rural areas. Ibeju is one of 7 new town developments. Ibeju is situated within Ibeju-Lekki local government area of Kelli Peninsla and is easily accessible through the Lagos-Epe expressway in Nigeria. It is bounded in the West by New Lagos City and the Atlantic ocean in the south. The area covers approximately 669.309 hectares of land. The scheme is designed to cater for approximately 63, 510 residents. The design is a mixed-use development in order to create a conducive living, working and playing environment.
