Heidelberg Coal Mine, Gauteng

Development of four proposed coal-mine projects - Elders, Zondagsfontein, New Largo and Heidelberg - which would, in the next decade, have a collective capacity of 48 mtpa a year. Heidelberg mine is a proposed underground mine. Anglo American Inyosi Coal (Pty) Ltd (AAIC) applied for a coal mining right over an area of 14 367 ha on various portions of the farms Elandsfontein 412 IR, Riviersdraai 416 IR, De Hoek 411 IR, Modderfontein 410 IR, Rietspruit 417 IR, De Kuilen 460 IR and Rietspruit 445 IR near Heidelberg in Gauteng Province. The life of this mine is estimated at 15 years with projected annual output of 4.2 million tons a year.
