About this development
Development of a new athletics stadium, to be built on the site of the old Green Point Stadium, in Cape Town in the Western Cape, and to cost about R80 million, will complement the facilities for half a dozen sporting codes on the common, including golf, soccer, rugby, tennis, cricket and bowls. They are planning to retain most of what remains. The reinforced concrete structure will remain and entire stadium will be revamped. There will be a small new section on the western side, with roofing and lighting. Around the rest of the track will be a raised earth berm, which will provide grass for seating. Around the whole stadium will be a façade, to secure the stadium. A new tartan track with proper sports fields will be built, and it will formally be known as the Green Point Athletics Stadium.
