Project overview
About this development
Construction of a multi-phased hydroelectric mega-complex comprising seven proposed power stations, including the immediate development of Inga 3 (Basse Chute and Haute Chute) and the modernization and expansion of the existing Inga 1 (351-MW) and Inga 2 (1,424-MW) facilities at the Inga Falls site, situated on the Congo River, approximately 150 km upstream from the Atlantic Ocean and 225 km southwest of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. Total project cost for the complex estimated at US$80 billion. Scope of Works could include: Diversion works to consist of constructing a massive intake canal to divert a portion of the Congo River’s flow into the Bundi Valley without the need for a full-river dam. Building the Bundi Dam to create a reservoir in the Bundi Valley. Construction of multiple power stations (starting with Inga 3) equipped with high-capacity turbines to reach a cumulative target of 42,000 MW. Transmission infrastructure to include: Installation of thousands of kilometers of High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) lines to export power to South Africa (SAPP), Nigeria (WAPP), and potentially Europe. Rehabilitation: Refurbishment of turbines and electromechanical equipment at the aging Inga 1 and Inga 2 sites to restore 100% operational capacity. Construction of access roads, bridges, and a dedicated "construction city" for the workforce. The exact GPS Coordinates are not known, the marker has been placed at the primary intake site for the Inga 2 facility, which serves as the central hub for the planned Inga 3 expansion -5.545833, 13.556944.
