About this development
Construction of a major dam at the Foxwood site on the Koonap River for the purpose of augmenting water supplies to Adelaide in the Eastern Cape and to provide reliable water supplies for existing and new irrigation. Adelaide is an established Karoo town situated on the banks of the Koonap River, approximately 200 km north-east from Port Elizabeth. The Koonap River which is tributary of the Great Fish River has a total catchment area of 3 360 km² and is approximately 220 km long. The Koonap River is the only major undeveloped river in the area. The abstraction of water at present is by means of either canals or pumping. Although a relatively small town, Adelaide is the business center of the Koonap River irrigation area.The exact co-ordinates are currently not available however the approximate area of location is, 32°42'25.7"S 26°17'42.9"E
