Project overview
About this development
Umbani Power Company is proposing to establish a Fluidised Bed Power Plant of up to 540MW in the KwaMbonambi area, KwaZulu-Natal. The proposed power plant will be a non-utility and independent energy generating facility. The power plant will utilise discard coal from the existing and decommissioned mines in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumulanga to power four 135MW Circulating Fluidised Bed Boilers, which will provide steam to traditional steam driven turbo alternator units. Electricity will be fed into the distribution system of the Eskom Invubu Sub-Station and should result in a significant stabilisation in electricity supply in Richards Bay. Value: R5 - R8 billion.
