Project overview
About this development
Pan Africa Resources has embarked on a two-year subvertical shaft project to alleviate congestion at Fairview No 3 decline at the Fairview Mine, Barberton, Mpumalanga. The 4.1m diameter shaft will extend from 42 to 64 level through raiseboring. The subvertical shaft will be equipped to hoist people and material and thereby free up the current No 3 decline to hoist only ore. The design of the new shaft project is progressing as planned and this design should be completed over a period of two years, after which construction of the shaft can commence. It is expected that the subvertical shaft could contribute additional production of up to 10,000oz per annum through the increase in available hoisting capacity below 42 Level (3 Decline). During the evaluation phase of the project, a 4 Decline will be developed to ensure effective downdip production, by reducing equipment tramming distances and alleviating mechanised equipment congestion. Extension of the existing refrigeration infrastructure is also planned through the development of a pipe-raise to enable cooling as mining progresses at depth. Estimated project value: R105 million. GPS coordinates for Fairview Mine is -25.73597543256324, 31.064288730687935.
