Construction of roads and stormwater infrastructure for the Dobsonville Extension 9 housing development in Dobsonville Gauteng. CIDB 8CE. Scope of Works: The project comprises the construction of a road network and associated stormwater infrastructure for the residential development. Works will be undertaken using both conventional and labour-intensive construction methods. Conventional construction activities include grubbing, mass earthworks for roads, excavation in soft, intermediate and hard rock for stormwater pipelines, watering of bypasses, roadbed preparation, layer works, stormwater pipe laying and backfilling, asphalt surfacing, and the cleaning of existing stormwater systems. Labour-intensive construction activities include the establishment of the contractor’s base camp or depot, site clearance, selected trench excavations, installation of service ducts smaller than 200 mm in diameter, erection of traffic signs and road markings, construction of traffic calming measures, bedding, manholes and junction boxes, inlet and outlet structures, paved walkways, as well as the construction of edge beams and kerbing. The completed works will provide the necessary road and stormwater infrastructure to support the housing development. The proposed development is located within the City of Johannesburg and 22km southwest of Johannesburg Central Business District. It shares borders with Dobsonville in the north and Thulani Township in the south. The R558 mobility corridor is situated to the west of the development and N12 runs along the southern extremities of the site, the GPS marker has been placed in the general location described, 26°13'37.10"S, 27°50'20.50"E.
