Project overview
About this development
Upgrading of the dense effluent marine-outfall pipe (the B-line), Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. This pipeline disposes gypsum from Foskor into the sea off Richards Bay. The preferred option involves: constructing a new dense effluent pipeline using the existing spare C-line, constructing a valve chamber on-shore to allow effluent to be switched between the new C-line and the existing B-line and upgrading the existing on-shore pump station. The Mhlathuze Water Pump station will need to be extended to incorporate the new pumps required. The preferred configuration is to construct a new dense effluent pipeline to the same length as the original B-line using the existing available C-line through the surf zone and to extend it from its current end at the high-water mark. The existing pump station will need to be extended to accommodate new pumps which will be able to ensure that optimum flow velocities for increased diffusion are obtained.
