About this development
The 2nd phase of the project will be the construction of the De Hoop Dam. The construction will take 5 to 6 years and includes the bulk - water distribution, pipelines, pumpstations, water-treatment works and a dam to regulate the flow from the Steelpoort river. Will include relocation of people in the basin and a road. The construction of the De Hoop dam and the associated bulk water distribution infrastructure will cost R5 billion and municipalities in the area, supported by the national and provincial government are preparing to invest an additional R3 billion in infrastructure to treat and distribute potable water to rural domestic and urban users. The construction of pipelines and the associated bulk-water distribution infrastructure will be phased in until 2017 in accordance with growth requirements. Total Value: R 7,4 billion.
